Sustainability

The Office of the University Architect is committed to environmentally sustainable planning and design, and assisting the university in achieving the goals stated in the Environmental Policy signed by Duke's senior administration in 2005.
The Office of the University Architect:
- promotes and incorporates sustainability at the planning stage in master plans, design guidelines, Action Plans and feasibility studies,
- assists in the selection of architects, landscape architects and engineers with appropriate qualifications and motivation related to sustainability,
- advises the university administration on issues such as transportation planning, stormwater master planning, and site and building design,
- oversees landscape design and plant selection, and advises on tree preservation and conservation, and
- assists in the design and acreditation of LEED certified campus buildings.
