East Campus Quad

The East Campus Quad displays a scale different than that of West Campus, with shorter buildings spaced further apart along the axis. The effect of this, along with the lack of mature canopy trees lining the inner lawn, is a much more open and less pedestrian-oriented scale. The vehicular loop road surrounding the inner lawn further accentuates the wide proportion of the space and makes the pedestrian experience less clear and comfortable than that of the West Campus Quad. Proposals in the East Campus Landscape Design Guidelines for adding two rows of canopy trees in the inner lawn, redesign the pedestrian circulation system, and replacing the existing asphalt with a higher quality paving would all improve the character and functionality of the Quad.
